Marian L. Fitzgibbon, PhD

Marian Fitzgibbon, PhD, has been the Director of the Northwestern Weight and Eating Disorder Program since 1992. A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Fitzgibbon completed her post-doctoral training at Cornell University and Northwestern. She joined Northwestern’s faculty after completing her fellowship training. Dr. Fitzgibbon is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and of preventive medicine. She specializes in treating anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating using individual psychotherapy. She has received grant support and published extensively on eating patterns specific to individual eating disorders and the role of body image, body dissatisfaction, and depression in weight control.

Susan Foti McClanahan, PhD

Susan McClanahan, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating. Dr. McClanahan received her doctorate degree from Northwestern, where she is a clinical instructor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences. She began her postdoctoral training in the Northwestern Weight and Eating Disorders Program in 1994. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she served as the Weight and Eating Disorders Program Coordinator for six years. Dr. McClanahan has conducted research on eating disorders and pregnancy and published in the area of sexual abuse as a precursor to psychiatric problems. She frequently works with clients struggling with depressive and anxiety disorders as well. Dr. McClanahan lectures on eating disorders to medical students, professional organizations, and the general public. She supervises Feinberg School of Medicine graduate and medical students who are conducting therapy with eating disorder patients. Her treatment orientation is both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral. Dr. McClanahan is proficient in both individual and group psychotherapy for the treatment of eating disorders and weight management.

Lisa A. Ratti, PhD

Lisa Ratti, PhD, has worked as a licensed clinical psychologist with the Weight and Eating Disorders Program since 1996. She received her doctorate degree from Northwestern, where she is a clinical instructor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Dr. Ratti completed her internship and postdoctoral training at Michael Reese Hospital where she worked as a staff psychologist for two years. Her research interests include family factors in anorexia and bulimia, and she has lectured on feminist and psychodynamic approaches to eating disorders. Dr. Ratti conducts individual therapy with adolescents and adults, utilizing a combination of psychodynamic and developmental perspectives. She specializes in treating anorexia, bulimia, anxiety, depression, and separation and identity issues in young adults. Dr. Ratti supervises graduate students, interns, and post-doctoral fellows at the Feinberg School of Medicine, and provides consultation in psychotherapy to colleagues. She also participates in educating college students and middle school students during Eating Disorders Awareness week.

Jonathan Sherman, PhD

Jonathan Sherman, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist. He received his doctorate degree in psychology from Northwestern, where he is a clinical instructor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Dr. Sherman completed an internship and fellowship at Illinois Masonic Medical Center before joining the Weight and Eating Disorders Program in 1995. He is experienced in the individual therapy of anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating. Dr. Sherman has a special interest in working with adolescent clients and their families. He also lectures and teaches in his capacity as a Feinberg School of Medicine adjunct faculty member.

Shawn M. Taylor, PhD

Shawn Taylor, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in individual and group treatment for clients struggling with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal difficulties. She is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern, where she participates in the supervision, training, and teaching of clinical graduate students and fellows. Prior to joining the Northwestern Weight and Eating Disorder Program in 1998, Dr. Taylor was a Staff Psychologist and Director of Clinical Training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital 's Partial Hospital Day Treatment Program. Her research interests center on investigating psychotherapy change processes and treatment outcome in group and individual psychotherapy.
